So, is this Tom Cruise or Julia Roberts?

If you had ambition to become a really big time actress or actor, who would you listen to about how to make it happen, or whether it's really a good thing or not? Pick one:

a. Julia Roberts or Tom Cruise

b. A waiter in LA who hasn't done it, but knows all the reasons why he's never going to get his due becoming big time. He doesn't know the right people, etc.

c. A hairdresser in Hollywood who's tried it lots, but hasn't made it and is down on it.
Your final answer? Tom Cruise or Julia, you say?

Why?

OH. THEY'VE DONE IT, AND THEY ARE ON TOP

So why wouldn't you listen to the waiter or the hairdresser?

Oh. They haven't done it, or didn't succeed.

OK. So what about you let all your new babies know this:

Next time they receive advice of ANY kind about their business venture (pukey advice or other), before they decide how much weight to give that advice, they must ask ONE QUESTION of the advice giver:"OK. So, let me ask you, how do you know this?"

If it's anything akin to:

"Well I heard that...

"Well I tried that once and didn't..."

"Actually, I knew someone once who had stuff in their garage..."

"Those things never work..."

do you have Tom Cruise or the waiter?

Think that was that Julia Roberts speaking?

Bottom line: Why would you take advice from anyone other than the top people in your or any other networking company if that's what you aspire to? If you want to go to the top in acting, say, would you really hang on every word of the waiter or hairdresser? Or hang on every word of Tom or Julia?

So ask yourself: Was that Tom or Julia speaking? Or uh, well you know.... Then decide how much weight to give the advice. OK?
