Would you rather not hear it?
Want to do something so you hear it less often?
OK. Well, what if the question's triggered by something you unwittingly
said? You know, JUST before the dreaded question bites you?
Uh, like what?
Well, imagine someone is 'pitching' you, and they say things like:
"X in our company makes $20,000 a month."
"You can make big money really, and pretty fast."
"It's easy, anyone can do it."
"You wouldn't believe what people make."
What's the next question YOU immediately want to ask THEM?
Uh huh.
So, do you want to keep saying things like this to people you're trying
to recruit?
Or any of the '5 Worst
things to say to a Good prospect'?
OK then, no more, yes?
NEXT: OK, I won't say those things anymore. But in case they DO ask,
then what should I say when I'm not in the money yet??
Catch-up reading: What should I say to a REALLY
good prospect?
And remember, are you saying that thing that brings on the question?
YOU: Let me tell you what I'm doing. I'm
building up something for my long term income, so I'll have something
for later. It's kind of like a real estate project. You know, like building
up an apartment building with 100 apartments to rent.
You know how that takes a few years to get it built, right? And then
you can collect rent from all the apartments. You know how that works,
right?
OK. Well, right now I'm at the ground breaking stage. [Or, at the 'building
the structure' or the 'planning' stage]. Do you know how much real estate
project developers collect at that stage of their project? How much
rent they can get when they're still planning it or still building it?
THEN PAUSE. MOST people realize that's too soon to be collecting rent,
when no apartments are finished yet.
Well, that's where I am right now. Right there. Building it. (Or 'planning
it' whatever stage you're at). I'll let you know when it's done and
then we'll see how big it is.
How about you, John? Are you building up something for your long term
income so you have something coming in for later?
End of this part of the conversation from
you. No justifying anything. You think a real estate developer feels
embarrassed that when the project is on the drawing boards, or in the
process of being built, that there's no rent income yet? Isn't that
silly to even think such a thing?
Isn't it silly here, also? Isn't this the same? Aren't you building
up an income producing asset as well?
Instead of a building that's the asset, and rental income from it, you
have PEOPLE who share certain beliefs. THAT is your asset you are building
and gathering. Like a religious organization or an interest group.
And the income? People who continue to build the group, who use the
products and services, you earn percents from all that. Just like rent
from the apartments AFTER they are built.
How much income will there be?? Well, how many units are you building?
Like a duplex? 6 units? 100 or 1000 units?
Up to you, yes?
Most people start with smaller projects, and build bigger and bigger.
Isn't this the same?
You are building up an income producing asset. It may be a few years
before you can start collecting on your efforts. Just like a real estate
developer builds until the thing is ready to be rented.
What if that's how you respond to that question:
"So how much do you make?"
